A mix of long standing traditions with a few modern twists, the Alice Springs Showgirl competition was open in 2011 to all Central Australian women aged between 18 and 30, regardless of marital status, dropping the requirement of being a ‘miss’ that previously limited entrants. The main aim was to find a young Central Australian who embodied the spirit of the Alice Springs Show. As well as individual interviews with the four judges, the 13 entrants also participated in two novelty events – cupcake decorating and speed swag rolling, which made for a fun afternoon at the judging picnic. The 13 girls who entered the competition were all amazing young women and the judges had a hard time choosing a winner!

The 2011 Alice Springs Showgirl was a great success in part due to the generosity and support of local businesses.
